Two weeks lets you taste both islands. It’s ambitious — you’ll cover ground — but with the right route you get geothermal North, alpine South, and the iconic Cook Strait crossing in between.

## How to think about two weeks

Be honest about pace. Two islands in 14 days means **fewer, longer stays and efficient driving**, not a stop every hour. If you’d rather go deep on one island, our [10-day South Island](https://newzealand-vacation.com/plan-your-trip/10-day-south-island-itinerary/) route is the more relaxed choice.

## The itinerary

### North Island (Days 1–6)

Days 1–2 **Auckland** → Day 3 **Hobbiton + Rotorua** → Day 4 **Taupō** → Day 5 **Tongariro** → Day 6 **Wellington**, overnight before the ferry.

### The crossing (Day 7)

Cook Strait by [Interislander or Bluebridge](https://newzealand-vacation.com/campervans-transport/interislander-vs-bluebridge/) — a scenic half-day through the Marlborough Sounds into Picton.

### South Island (Days 8–14)

Day 8 **Kaikoura** (whales) → Day 9 **Christchurch/Tekapo** → Day 10 **Mount Cook** → Days 11–12 **Queenstown & Wanaka** → Day 13 **[Milford Sound](https://newzealand-vacation.com/things-to-do/milford-sound-cruises/)** → Day 14 depart Queenstown.

**Two weeks, two islands, zero logistics?** That's exactly what our partner arranges — [plan a fully organised New Zealand trip with allovoyages](https://www.allovoyages.fr) and get this itinerary costed for you.

**Tiaki tip:** Book the ferry vehicle space and the Milford cruise well ahead in summer — they're the two things most likely to sell out and derail a two-island plan.

## FAQ

### Can you see both islands in 14 days?

Yes, at a brisk pace. Expect several 3–4 hour drives. For a calmer trip, do one island in 14 days or add a week.

### Which direction — north to south or reverse?

North-to-south is most common (fly into Auckland, out of Queenstown) and matches campervan relocation flows in summer.
